Femoro Popliteal

Femoro Popliteal: Angioplasty

Trans-Atlantic Inter-Society Consensus Classification (TASC)of Femoropopliteal Disease reflects the fact that increasingly complex disease can be treated using endovascular techniques.

Conventional  femoropopliteal  PTA revealed initial technical success rates of 80% to 95%.

Drug-eluting stents (DES) and drug coated angioplasty balloons (DCB) are designed with the purpose of limiting the reactionary, proliferative process of neointimal hyperplasia offering superior stent patency.

Long-term management following infrainguinal endovascular therapy requires careful monitoring and concomitant treatment of modifiable atherosclerotic risk factors. Aggressive attempts at smoking cessation, reduction to an ideal body weight with diet and exercise, and the control of hypercholesterolemia with pharmacologic therapy are essential to mitigate cardiovascular risk and may confer some benefit with respect to PAD symptoms
